Type: Hardy Bulb
Flowering period: Apr-May
Plant bluebells in the dappled shade of deciduous trees. English bluebell bulbs thrive in reliably moist, well drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting, to improve less than ideal soils. Plant bulbs at a depth of 10cm and 10cm apart. For natural looking drifts of bluebell flowers, gently cast the bulbs across the planting area and plant them where they land!
Bluebells require reliably moist soil throughout summer. Water bulbs if necessary until they are fully established. When growing English bluebells, it is essential to allow their foliage to die back naturally as this will feed the bulb for the following year. Where bulbs are naturalised in grass, avoid mowing the area until their foliage has died back. Divide overcrowded clumps of bluebells in summer after flowering.
