Garden Centre

A relative latecomer to the gardening profession, Ruth is now one of the UK’s most respected garden designers. She has worked across the country to a wide range of briefs, from creating small plots for new houses to helping clients combat an army of rabbits rampaging through their large garden in the Wye Valley. Ruth has designed many show and theme gardens, winning an RHS Silver Medal at the Hampton Court Flower Festival in 1999 for her creation ‘Safe Haven’.

A member of the Society of Garden Designers, Ruth now combines design with writing, producing a Creative Solutions column for the magazine Garden Inspirations, as well as making considerable contributions to She is also the author of The Gardening Which? Guide to Small Gardens and was garden design consultant on Short Cuts to Great Gardens, published by Readers’ Digest.

Ruth divides her time between the fringes of the Forest of Dean and the heart of Silicon Valley in California. She is passionate about garden visiting and garden history. Having ‘unearthed’ a garden in West Gloucestershire, she admits to very nearly losing it again. But revamping it has been a wonderful opportunity to try out creative ideas and different plants, and it’s proved to be a great way of unwinding from a busy schedule.
