If you asked a cross-section of British gardening enthusiasts who was the best gardening writer currently around many would say Stephen Anderton. He combines professionalism, rooted in his background as a hands-on head gardener, with humour, authority and adventure.
Stephen has been the award-winning gardening correspondent of The Times for many years and contributes to a host of garden magazines in Britain and the United States. His career as a full-time gardener took him to the position of National Gardens Manager for English Heritage.
Revamping several of his own gardens is explained species by species in his book Rejuvenating a Garden. Currently Stephen lives and gardens in the village of Newport near Cambridge, where he also sharpens his second talent, as a songwriter and one-man-show expert. This led one admirer to describe him as "to gardening what Private Eye is to politics".
