Asparagus Connovers Colossal is an old favourite and has been awarded an Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society 2005. This is an excellent variety with bright green spears and deep purple tips, and produces an exceptionally high yield.
The crowns are best planted between March and May, and though a few spears can be cut the following year, it is best left for two years so that it can grow into a strong plant. Plant crowns in a trench that is 30cm wide by 20cm deep with a central ridge that is 10cm high. Place the crown on the ridge, spreading the roots out evenly and cover with soil. Harvest the spears in mid-spring when they are about 15cm tall and fairly thick.

Position: full sun
Soil: any moderately, fertile soil
Rate of growth: average
Hardiness: fully hardy
3 Crowns per pack

Fingers crossed Wonda_y on 28 April 2014

A bit concerned with packaging of crowns Roots are folded and secured with rubber bands Even after a decent soak roots are ridged and wont straighten out completely so I planted as best as I could No comparison to the fresh crowns I got from a friend Will see if I get some decent spears in 2 years time

they are in Feb'11 angwella on 17 February 2011

Soaked them well bed been prepared for a while. Will see how they get on as with Rhubarb I got am prepared to wait and will review if allowed later in year.

can't wait Joanne on 17 March 2010

not sure I've got the patience to wait the 2 years, but I'm looking forward to trying these!
